Have you participated in #gardenchat yet? If not you’re missing out on a lot of fun plus great information!
Now is a great time to check it out because I will be guest-hosting #gardenchat this coming Monday evening at 9pm Eastern time. And the topic is native plants. Very cool topic indeed!
GardenChat is the brainchild of Lisa Gustavson and the other members of the Soil Sisters, who were lamenting the lack of a live organic gardening event, so they created #gardenchat, a live twitter chat that happens every Monday.
Their hope for #gardenchat is to stir more conversation on organic gardening and to get more people involved in growing their own fresh foods.
Since its inception they have discussed topics such as community gardens with guest hostess @TheYarden, school garden programs with guest hostess @Anarchy_Garden, container gardening with guest hostess @LifeOnTheBlcny, water saving techniques, @Suburban_Farmer guest hosted a chat on composting, and recently @xitomatl guest hosted a chat on seed saving techniques.
It has become a terrific resource of information with so many different viewpoints coming together in one place to discuss the topics. It is truly a smelting pot of gardening knowledge.
If you are new to #gardenchat the best way to keep up is to go to this address http://www.tweetchat.com/room/gardenchat It’s a scrolling chat room that follows the hashtag, #gardenchat. It also automatically inserts the hashtag for you.
Let’s meet this wonderful cast of characters:
- Lisa Gustavson of Get in the Garden Twitter @getinthegarden
- LaManda Joy of The Yarden Twitter @TheYarden
- Fern Richardson of Life On The Balcony Twitter @LifeOnTheBlcny
- Chris McLaughlin of A Suburban Farmer Twitter @Suburban_Farmer (remember those great compost interviews with her?)
- xitomatl Blog Twitter @xitomatl
Please join in the fun Mondays at 9pm Eastern for #gardenchat.
A full transcript of this chat is available. What fun!
In the meantime, what questions do you have about native plants? Please help me get warmed up!

Thanks for explaining #gardenchat. I’d heard of it from Lisa, but wasn’t really sure how it works. Now I know just to come back here when I can take part and need the instructions to refer to. I look forward to meeting you there Carole
