Native Plant nurseries of the U.S. and Canada

The wonderful folks at Wildlife Gardeners forum have compiled a fabulous list of native plant nurseries in the U.S. and Canada.

The list is divided into 3 parts:

The folks at Wildlife Gardeners Forum are very friendly and knowledgeable, so check out the forums while you’re there.

We’ve already talked about how important native plants are, so this list makes it very easy to find native plants for your area. Please support nurseries that are propagating native plants as opposed to the big box stores. This keeps local folks in business during these hard economic times, and rewards them for promoting native plants.

Where do you get your native plants?

      Hi Carole,

You might want to mention that the list of native plant nurseries is _contained in_ the thread listing the butterfly plants. I scrolled past the link to the list at least three times because I thought that was the subject of the thread. (Gah. Need coffee.)

Another great place to look for plants is the Ladybird Johnson Wildlife Center (http://www.wildflower.org) — they have lists of recommended natives by state, which is fabulous.

Recently Sally and Andy Wasowski donated a huge collection of photos to the Image Gallery, so you can usually see what the mature plants look like too.

@firefly, thanks, I changed the link to go directly to the Native Plant Nursery thread on the forums. That’s a little less confusing I think. Thanks for pointing that out and for the link to Ladybird Johnson Wildlife Center.

I tend to go to Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve or The Schuylkill Center when they have their annual native plant sales. I have also gotten a few cultivars of native plants at Holod’s. I have yet to visit any actual native plant nurseries.

I LOVE the Ladybird Johnson wildflower.org website. Hugely helpful.

@Nif these local native plant sales are very important to support because it benefits a local organization and helps them to continue doing fabulous work in educating folks to use natives. Kudos to you for supporting them!
