It’s time again for my weekly roundup of the most interesting tidbits from around the web. There is a plethora of great information for Ecosystem Gardeners and this weekly collection is my way of sharing with you the things that caught my attention this week
To start, here’s a totally amazing photo of a Hawk attacking a cloud of bats. I don’t know anything about the photographer, wish I did. This was floating around twitter this week. Simply stunning!

- Charlie of botany buddy (@botanybuddy) has a great list of 10 Commonly Planted Invasive Woody Species, including Paulownia which was my Most Hated Plant this week. Read this list carefully and make sure you are not planting any of these species.
- In Leaf Litter is An Environmental Windfall, Vera Strader of My Mother Lode adds new information to our discussion of Life in the Leaf Litter, Don’t Throw a Good Thing Away. Leaf litter is a critical element for healthy soil and many wildlife species are dependent on it.
- Pat Sutton, my friend and mentor, is giving a series of workshops on gardening for wildlife. If you are close to Cape May, these workshops are a must for making your garden a wildlife haven.
- Want to help scientists learn about wildife? @habitatgarden has a great list of citizen science projects for you to participate in. Leave some nice comments and tell them Carole sent you.
- The IUCN has published a list of the countries with the highest number of endangered species. Guess what number the U.S. is?
And, in case you missed anything, here’s what happened at Ecosystem Gardening this week:
- Most Hated Plants list: Paulownia (Princess) Tree
- Pollinator conservation in your Ecosystem Garden
- Helping Endangered wildlife in your Ecosystem Garden
- Bringing Nature Home to Your Ecosystem Garden, Timber Press interview with Doug Tallamy
- A visit to Ro Wilson’s Garden: Ecosystem Gardening showcase
