Conservation Gardening Best of the Web #4

It’s time for my weekly round-up of the best of the web. I don’t have a theme this week, just a collection of great articles. Enjoy!

Alison Kerr of Loving Nature’s Garden has written a thought provoking article about the cost of restoring habitat after we’ve destroyed it in Prairie Restoration, Is it worth it?. What do you think? Is the cost of restoration, of giving a little back to wildlife, worth it?

Michelle Owens at Garden Rant has written a great review of Jeff Gillman’s new book, How Trees Die. Fascinating information including the fact that there were no earthworms in the forests of the northeast until the European settlement.

Bill of the Birds had a vireo fallout in his garden this week. See his amazing photos of these birds.

Susan Harris follows up her last appearance here with Lawn Care We Love. Be sure to leave comments there about your feelings about sustainable lawns.

And check out this fascinating site I found this week. Judy of the Woods explores sustainability and self-reliant living while living off-grid in Wales. Give yourself some time, you’ll become engrossed with all of the fabulous information she’s got there.

Finally, read about the disturbing loss of native pollinators. Kind of make you wonder when we will learn our lesson about moving species here, there, and everywhere, doesn’t it?

What articles did you discover this week? Let us know in the comments below.

My pleasure, Alison. Great article! Yes, I enjoy reading the great articles that come across my reader. I’m kind of a sponge, soaking up great information……

Thank you for including me in your Best of the Web post. I’m flattered :-)

I agree with restoring natural habitat, whatever the cost. It sure is a drop in the ocean compared to what certain corporate institutions received in the last year, and a hell of a lot more deserving!
