I've done the Great Backyard Bird Count for many years. It's fun and the information gathered is vital for scientists in discovering population trends.

Love the cardinal photo. I had a whole host of birds in my Kansas back yard yesterday. Robins were flocking in the oak tree and rooting around in exposed earth below the trees, where the snow had melted. There were more juncos than I've seen all winter. And there was a cardinal and at least one chickadee too.

Do you take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count? One of my readers is excited about doing it for the first time.

So beautiful! They always look so striking against snow! And I swear I NEVER see a junco (snowbird we always called 'em) when there isn't snow on the ground. Always wonder where they go..... !!

The female cardinal is particularly pretty!

I'm looking forward to some good birdwatching with the sunlight on snow reflecting upward and making the birds less backlit.
