Julia, I totally agree with you, and sympathize with your efforts to get rid of it. It's a beast isn't it? I've written about the problem of invasive Chinese Wisteria, and it is definitely on my most hated plants list!

I have spent more than 60 hours in the last two weeks trying to mechanically remove chinese wisteria. I didn’t plant it. It was here when we bought the house. It was in a ravine we own that parellels the main property, so I didn’t really notice it. Some of the roots were about 8-10 inches in diameter. I had to get an electric chainsaw for them. I’m starting to see a difference, but know I’ve got many more hours to go. Neighbors have tried to stop me because they “enjoy” the wisteria in the spring. However, I’ve noticed that none of them are growing it themselves. DON’T EVER plant this stuff. “INVASIVE,” is not a strong enough description.
