About

Carole BrownI’m Carole Brown, and I’m the Ecosystem Gardener. I’m passionate about teaching people to manage their properties to benefit the environment, conserve natural resources, and create wonderful habitats for the wildlife around us.

I’m a Conservation Biologist and have spent almost 20 years as a consultant designing, installing and maintaining wildlife gardens for people who want to share their space with birds, butterflies, frogs and toads, bats, reptiles and amphibians, and yes even insects.

Ever been confused by conflicting and incomplete information about attracting wildlife to your property? So was I. So, while I was writing my thesis (Conservation Gardening and Sustainable Landscaping), I completely researched subjects such as: ecology of birds, amphibians and reptiles, pollination, mammals, butterflies, and insect-plant interactions; botany, ecological restoration, sustainable landscaping, soil biology, and water conservation. This research is being shared here with you.

I can teach you to manage your property sustainably, in an environmentally friendly and conscious way. Being conscious of the impact of the choices you make is the first step to benefits to you and the health of the environment around you.

People I teach include homeowners, business owners, school and college groundskeepers, nursery owners, city planners, and open space advocates. Together we work on finding ways to share our properties with wildlife, conserve water, improve soil health and prevent erosion, use less fossil fuels, make sustainable choices, and choose the best plants.

I give presentations on these subjects for gardening groups, homeowner associations, nature centers, schools, and businesses. Please contact me for details.

I’m an avid birder, butterflyer, naturalist, and photographer, and am always excited to bring this passion for the natural world into our discussions. I read ALOT, and am always excited when I find new research, new books, and other information which increases my knowledge that I can share with you. If you are an author or publisher with a book I haven’t mentioned here, please let me know.

I’m thrilled that you are here to join in this discussion!

What others are saying:

Ecosystem Gardening Carole Brown. Just read her About page, I could not do this woman justice. She really means it – she honestly believes in eco-system gardening in backyards as well as public spaces. The information she shares coupled with her factual, first hand knowledge is highly valuable to anyone who wishes to put an effort into habitat, eco-friendly landscaping. ~Karyl, Backyard Wildlife Habitat, Native Plant Gardening
